With quattro, a 7 speed automatic gearbox and 0 to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds, it has the pace to make motorway slip roads unnecessarily entertaining while remaining comfortable enough for school runs and long journeys. It is the ideal choice for someone who needs sensible family space but refuses to become emotionally attached to a beige crossover.
The Technology Pack, heated front seats, three zone climate control, navigation, parking sensors and power tailgate make it easy to live with. The factory fitted towbar adds genuine practicality without spoiling the clean Black Edition look.
Some buyers will consider an X3 or GLC. Both are good cars, but the Q5 offers that familiar Audi mix of grip, quality and understated speed.
