This grey 2015 Audi A3 1.6 TDI Sport is for someone who wants sensible running costs but would rather their commute did not feel like a punishment for being financially responsible. With 73636 miles and a six speed manual gearbox, it combines everyday usefulness with that quietly satisfying Audi feel.
Someone will inevitably ask why you would pay more for an A3 when an Astra also gets you to work. Fair question. A cheap coat also keeps the wind out. You notice the difference when you spend every day wearing it.
The Astra is a perfectly sensible car. The Audi appeals to the part of you that has ordered something cheap online, opened the parcel and immediately understood the price difference. Temu has taught us all a little about expectations.
Inside, the appeal is in the details. Supportive front sports seats, a leather multifunction steering wheel and aluminium trim make the daily drive feel a little more considered. Dual zone climate control means one of you can enjoy the Arctic while the other recreates a Spanish summer without filing for separation.
There is Bluetooth for calls, DAB radio and Audi Drive Select, while 17 inch alloys give it enough presence without looking like it has arrived to collect a noise complaint.
The 1.6 TDI delivers useful pulling power and an official combined economy figure of 74.3 mpg. Actual consumption depends on how you drive, but the attraction is obvious. More miles for your money, without spending those miles wishing you had bought something nicer.
Five doors keep family duties straightforward. The understated grey finish lets you look quietly pleased with yourself rather than announcing it through a megaphone.
